St Charles Veterans to Celebrate the Constitution on Constitution Day

On September 17, 1787, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention met for the last time to sign the document they had created. Since the passage of an amendment to the Omnibus Spending Bill in 2004, in every subsequent Presidential term, the Leader of the Free World has acknowledged and celebrated Constitution Day.

The U.S. Constitution acted like a colossal merger, uniting a diverse group of states holding different interests, laws, and cultures.

Under America’s first National government, the Articles of Confederation, the States acted together only for specific purposes. Our Constitution served to unite its citizens as members of a whole, vesting the power of the Union in the people.

Without it, the American Experiment might have ended as quickly as it had begun.

Today, the veterans of St Charles recognize that, as long-standing members of the military community, our members and organizations unapologetically have a united Patriotic resolve and commitment to flag, Country, and to the Constitution of the United States of America.

That promise lies within our oaths of enlistment and office.

We sadly note that currently, the country that we fought and sacrificed for is under attack from groups that are bringing death and destruction onto our local streets, disrupting peaceful communities, causing needless wreckage and carnage to many historical memorials and monuments, in an effort to erase and cancel acknowledgment of elements of our Nation’s history.

On September 17th, 2020, the St Charles Veterans Constitution Support Group will offer a community event: a “Constitution Celebration” from noon to -2pm. Everyone is invited to peacefully and respectfully meet at the St Charles Freedom Shrine

(adjacent to the former STC Police Department along the Riverwalk) for a ceremony, then walk to the Veterans Center for a Flag Dedication.

Keynote Address by Medal of Honor Recipient Allen J. Lynch and light refreshments.

Free pocket Constitutions, flags, and flag code booklets will be made available while supplies last.

Please observe social distancing and wear a mask.

The Constitution Celebration is being advertised on Facebook on the St Charles Veteran Posts page and on our website: www.stcharlesveteranscenter.org

Organizers, COL Duane Buttell (U.S. Air Force Ret.), COL Jake Wyatt (U.S. Army Ret.) and Major Andy Balafas (USAR) are available for interview.
